Established in Fall 2018The idea for VOICES began with Dr. Melva Treviño-Peña and Dr. Nelle Couret in the fall semester of 2018 at URI. Dr. Treviño-Peña helped found The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences Professional Learning Community at Oregon State University (website here) and felt that URI would benefit from a similar model of action. Since its founding, memebers of the VOICES team have been working to develop strategies for supporting URI community members with historically marginalized social identities and planning events to fulfill the groups central goals.

Our GoalsVOICES is a professional learning community, or a group of people with a common interest in education. We envision the URI College of Environmental and Life Sciences as one entry point from which we can begin to enact broader change around issues of inclusion, equity, diversity, and representation in higher education and beyond. While our group goals can and will adapt our community's dynamic needs, the goals outlined below represent the basic framework for our work.
